Australian flag

The flag has three main design elements on a deep blue background:

  • The British Union Jack flag is in the upper left corner,
  • The Southern Cross constellation (5 stars) is on the right side of the flag - the Southern Cross is a major navigational constellation in the Southern Hemisphere,
  • The large, white, seven-pointed Commonwealth Star (also called the Star of Federation) - it is symbolic of the original states of Australia.

Australia is divided into 6 states: New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania and 2 territories; the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory.

Didgeridoo

The didgeridoo (or didjeridu) is a wind instrument of the Indigenous Australians of northern Australia. It is sometimes described as a natural wooden trumpet or "drone pipe".

A didgeridoo is usually cylindrical or conical in shape. It can measure 1, 2 or 3 metres in length. Generally, the longer the instrument, the deeper the sound.

It is made from tree trunk of an eucalyptus or PVC (plastic)

It is the world's oldest wind instrument.

How to make your own didgeridoo

Materials:

  • Paper tube (one long paper tube or 3 paper towel rolls).
  • White paper.
  • Crayons.
  • Transparent tape.

Instructions:

  1. Tape paper towel rolls to form a single long tube.
  2. Cut enough white paper to cover the paper tube.
  3. Make your "aboriginal art" design on the white paper.
  4. Cover the tube with your design.
  5. Blow into the tube and discover the different sounds that you can make.
